Preparatory Training for Ultramarathon
« on: March 12, 2010, 03:24:06 pm »
I am currently considering joining Bataan Death March Ultramarathon (BDM - 102k) next year as I got inspired by the people who participated there.

So far, I had 2 full marathons, and several half-marathons. My running injuries were not that "serious" despite my second full marathon had blisters, cramps, and achilles heel, I got 5 minute improvement time. In fact, I only got injured in my full marathons. I might do a 50k trail run this April (TNF) and the additional 8km from the normal full marathon (*hope*) won't be too much.

Tips? :P

keep yourself hydrated.

Knee injuries are quite common in running so better develop your hamstrings and core for this.

@pyrrhus: both. what i think is i lack proper nutrition training. my last full marathon has a conservative improvement of 5 minutes from the first one but the "injuries" that appear are worse than the first one (the first had only blisters, the second came in 3 - cramps, blisters, and achilles heel). my preparatory training are usually runs but more on the treadmill as i don't have much time to spend running outside juggling between work, training, and sideline. :P

@cro: guess my strength training helps. :)

@draex: i realized that in running long distances, there's a difference between getting proper hydration and keeping "hydrated". minsan kasi hirap huminga pag every water station e iinom ka.

How about posting what you normally eat so I can take a peek at it??

also, try to run outside at least once a week to get a feel of how it will be in the actual run

As long as inline sya with your goal.

Strength training could also hurt your performance when done wrong.

Sa hydration e dyan makakatulong ang mga hydration drinks that contains some minerals and minute amount of sodium.

Having toomuch will make you feel thirsty more or feeling bloated.
