| Apologize as soon as you realize your mistake |
LESSON #7
Just flamed a friend? Stop, drop, and shut the hell up. Apologize as soon as you realize your mistake ("I'm so sorry, I didn’t know"), but wait a day or two to do damage control. Nervous banter or a lengthy apology ("See, I didn’t know your mother had died...") will only deepen the wound. Later, enlist a mutual friend as liaison. If the offended party is someone you see frequently, a wordless apology like a lunch or flowering plant can say more than enough. As with tumultuous affairs with exes, the safest bet is to be sure not to revisit that mistake.
