7 WAYS TO BEAT THE FUNK
  1. Sprinkle baking soda inside your shoe, and leave overnight. Shake out the baking soda before wearing the shoe.

  2. Ask for some used coffee grounds from a coffee house. Put in a small container and leave inside your shoe overnight.

  3. Leave two small containers of white vinegar inside your shoe (careful not to spill them), for a day or two to neutralize odor.

  4. Replace your shoe's inner sole with Dr. Scholl's charcoal footbed inserts, or similar products, to absorb the smell.

  5. Smelly shoes come from smelly feet. Wash your feet when you shower, then dry them properly before wearing your shoes.

  6. Lightweight cotton socks allow your feet to breathe. Never re-use yesterday's socks! Fresh socks mean fresh feet.

  7. Alternate between several pairs of shoes in a week. Bonus: This forces you to rotate your clothes to match.

7 STEPS FOR A CLEANER SOLE

  1. Before cleaning, remove the laces and the inner soles. Wash these separately. Let them dry completely before using.

  2. Use mild detergent soap, water, and a soft toothbrush to remove dirt and stains. Make sure you also clean the inside of the shoe.

  3. Suede should be wiped with a clean damp cloth, and left to air-dry. Brush suede shoes often with an old toothbrush.

  4. Stuff the shoes with old newspaper to absorb moisture from the inside, and to maintain their shape. Replace when the paper gets damp.

  5. Avoid leaving your shoes under direct sunlight to avoid discoloration. Sunlight can also reduce the elasticity of some rubber soles.

  6. Before polishing, use a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and stains. Always make sure the shoe is dry before applying shoe polish.

  7. For leather shoes, look for a shoe polish that is a close match to the shoe's color. When in doubt, opt for a neutral shoe polish or wax.

7 SIMPLE STORAGE PLANS
  1. Trim the herd. If you haven't used a shoe in the last six months, or the past year, consider donating them to your local charity or parish.

  2. Arrange your shoes by type (dress, casual, etc.), or by use (running, basketball, etc.). This helps keep your closet organized.

  3. Use shoe trees to help maintain your shoe's shape, In the case of dress shoes, prevent creases, which keeps them looking new.

  4. Invest in a shoe rack–-whether the stand-alone, behind-the-door, or in-closet type, to free up space in your room.

  5. Also use stackable clear boxes so you can see the shoes without having to take them out of storage.

  6. Shoe boxes are an inexpensive storage solution. Cut a hole or staple a Polaroid picture of the shoe on the box for easier identification.

  7. Never leave your shoes inside your car–-especially when you're parked under the sun. Excessive heat will damage the material.

7 BLISTER BUSTERS
  1. Wear properly-fitting shoes. That's the number one rule!

  2. Protect the potential 'hot spots' by taping.

  3. Keep feet as dry as possible. Wet shoes and socks will cause blisters far quicker than dry ones.

  4. At the first sign of a blister, apply a light dressing, if possible, and tape the affected area.

  5. If the blister has not burst then it may be necessary to make a small hole at the edge with a sterilized pin or needle. Do not drain a bloodfilled blister.

  6. Drain the fluid but leave as much of the skin as possible covering the wound. This is an important protective layer for the underlying skin, and helps prevent infection.

  7. Clean the blister with a sterilizing wipe. Cover the wound with a light dressing.

7 FEET FOR THOUGHT

  1. The hook and loop fastener, Velcro was invented in 1948 by Georges de Mestral, a Swiss engineer, after studying seeds that kept sticking to his clothes and his dog's fur.

  2. "Velcro" comes from the French words velours, meaning 'velvet,' and crochet, meaning 'hook.'

  3. The Converse All-Star was first produced in 1917. Charles "Chuck" Taylor became America's first player-endorser, when he signed on with Converse 1921.

  4. In 1923, Taylor's signature was added to the All-Star logo, and he embarked on a 35-year tour to teach basketball all over the United States.

  5. Camper's Pelotas have distinct outsoles that use round rubber patterns to provide cushioning. The word 'pelota' means 'ball' in English.

  6. Camper means peasant in the local dialect in Mallorca, Spain.

  7. The adidas Stan Smith was originally named after another tennis great, Robert Haillet, in 1965. It got its now-famous moniker in 1971, and the rest is history.
