FROM FLAB TO FLAT
Joel Abalde, PT, training supervisor at Mojo Gym in Quezon City, helped get Carl Guevara slim in weeks. Trim the excess pounds wIth these training tips.

Mix it up. Under Abalde’s supervision, Guevara’s training is plateau-proof— superset training on weekdays, circuit training on Saturdays, and rest on Sundays. after two weeks, Abalde  inserts one special training session. “It’s a program appropriately designed for each client. Kasi iba-ibang clients ko, iba-ibang program for each of them,” he says. “After two weeks, babaguhin ko ang training good for one day lang. Pang-build lang ng muscle.

No cheating. What you eat is equally important to how much you exercise, says Abalde. You need at least 3-4 workout sessions each week and when it comes to your meals, “kailangan ‘di ka nagche-cheat,” Abalde says. “Pag nag-diet ka, ang muscles mo nasanay sa good protein, good fat. What you eat when you have a cheat day, diretso ‘yung ia-absorb ng muscles mo kasi meron tayong tinatawag na micro-tearing of the muscles during workout,” he adds. “so ‘pag may micro-tearing ka and you eat bad food, diretso absorb sa katawan ‘yun. Kaya dapat wala talagang cheat day.”

Visualize your goal.
Two photos, says Abalde, are more powerful than a thousand words of motivation. “Yung picture mo before na mataba ka, tapos may isa ka ding picture ng katawang gusto mong ma-achieve. Lagay mo yun sa door or kung saan araw-araw mo makikita. every morning dapat nakikita mo,” he says. “pag tinatamad ka, just look at it. ‘Pag may nakikita ka na gusto mong ma-achieve, sigurado yan, pupunta at pupunta ka sa gym.
