A Thoughtful Pause
Men's Health Charm School
LESSON #4
Most of us are habituated to stepping on the end of the other guy's sentences, even if only with some kind of sound. A charming man never interrupts unless, of course, the chucklehead has no right to open hismouth and is this close to having it forcibly sealed.
In conversation, take the merest beat, an instant of consideration before responding. The effect you're after is that you're processing what she just said and that you plan on replying to it rather than blurting out the script that's looping around in your head. This is the verbal analogue of the wisdom that helped John Wooden make Goodrich, Jabbar, Wilkes, and Walton champions: Be quick, but don't hurry. The charming man knows the difference.
