The Junk Food Diet

THE FOOD: Chocolate
THE EXCUSE: Not only does the dark stuff contain a nutrient cocktail of cancer-fighting antioxidants, but a survey by mental health charity Mind in UK also showed it significantly improved mood in 27 percent of adults.
THE LIMIT: Four 50-g bars a week

THE FOOD: Peanuts
THE EXCUSE: Peanuts are packed with fat, but luckily it’s the kind you should be eating. These are of the poly- and monounsaturated variety, which lower levels of bad cholesterol. Also, pecan nuts contain ellagic acid, which forces cancer cells to self-destruct.
THE LIMIT: One handful a day

THE FOOD: Burgers
THE EXCUSE: Flame-grilling the meaty treats boosts the conjugated linoleic acid. A study in the University of Wisconsin in the US found this handy nutrient fights off cancer.
THE LIMIT: One fast-food or three home-grilled burgers a week

THE FOOD: Chips
THE EXCUSE: A spud contains twice as much vitamin C per gram as an apple. Just make sure to buy those made with real potatoes. Stay away from ‘potato-flavored’ chips.
THE LIMIT: One small bag a week

THE FOOD: Milkshakes
THE EXCUSE: Researchers at the University of Bristol in England found drinking milk each day cut the risk of fatal diseases, like cancer and stroke, by 10 percent. Just a third of a pint is enough to make the difference.
THE LIMIT: One 500-ml shake a week
