Chase your way to a healthy, fit body off the soccer field with gym clothes to fuse our love of the game and sportswear. Celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2006 and let the fun and games begin!
FOOTBALL WORKOUT
We select gym gear classics that cross over from soccer practice to cool, casual streetwear. You don't need to wear 'logomania' team jerseys to state the obvious. Subtlety speaks louder. Mix from one sport to another, but exercise your judgement wisely. Swim trunks and cycling shorts are best worn for their sole purpose.

3/4-Length Shorts A perfect alternative to your average-size lengths, lightweight 3/4-length shorts should be worn just slightly below the knee, leghole drawstrings unfastened. Oversized basketball shorts don't count.

The Pullover Invest in hooded sweatshirts or pullovers. Go a size smaller to make sure it clings to your body like second skin, with the length just slightly to your wrist. Wear the hoodie up your head for a fierce 'athlete in training' aura.

Runner Shorts Runner shorts fit lean men with firm thighs, a slim waist and V-shaped upper body best.

Sneakers Another excuse to add up to your collection, retro sneakers are always versatile. Wear them with barely-there ankle socks; but never sockless.

STYLE SPOTLIGHT
HIDETOSHI NAKATA
Asia’s answer to David Beckham, Hidetoshi “Hide” Nakata draws cheers for his grooming as much as his game. Credited for Japan’s first trip to the World Cup in 1997, he’s been called a free spirit on and off the field: the mercurial midfielder makes sly passes to strikers, and exhibits similar spontaneity when it comes to style. But Hide’s iconic status is largely owed to his leadership of the club’s Asia Cup wins in 2000 and 2004, plus a memorable upset over Brazil in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games. At 29, likely playing his last World Cup this year, expect more eyes on Nakata.
