2 7 WAYS TO BEAT THE FUNK
- Sprinkle baking soda inside your shoe, and leave overnight. Shake out the baking soda before wearing the shoe.
- Ask for some used coffee grounds from a coffee house. Put in a small container and leave inside your shoe overnight.
- Leave two small containers of white vinegar inside your shoe (careful not to spill them), for a day or two to neutralize odor.
- Replace your shoe's inner sole with Dr. Scholl's charcoal footbed inserts, or similar products, to absorb the smell.
- Smelly shoes come from smelly feet. Wash your feet when you shower, then dry them properly before wearing your shoes.
- Lightweight cotton socks allow your feet to breathe. Never re-use yesterday's socks! Fresh socks mean fresh feet.
- Alternate between several pairs of shoes in a week. Bonus: This forces you to rotate your clothes to match.

3 7 STEPS FOR A CLEANER SOLE
- Before cleaning, remove the laces and the inner soles. Wash these separately. Let them dry completely before using.
- Use mild detergent soap, water, and a soft toothbrush to remove dirt and stains. Make sure you also clean the inside of the shoe.
- Suede should be wiped with a clean damp cloth, and left to air-dry. Brush suede shoes often with an old toothbrush.
- Stuff the shoes with old newspaper to absorb moisture from the inside, and to maintain their shape. Replace when the paper gets damp.
- Avoid leaving your shoes under direct sunlight to avoid discoloration. Sunlight can also reduce the elasticity of some rubber soles.
- Before polishing, use a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and stains. Always make sure the shoe is dry before applying shoe polish.
- For leather shoes, look for a shoe polish that is a close match to the shoe's color. When in doubt, opt for a neutral shoe polish or wax.

3. Here's a clever trick for these vintage Converse high-tops: Paired with skinny pants, tie their laces; with regular-cut pants, leave the last lace holes open.
