No Sweat Style
The heat of summer presents a man with a whole slew of style challenges. Here are five sultry situations and tips for finding shelter from the swelter

1 TAKE THE BEACH
Swim trunks with an elastic waistband might bunch up if you wear them around your waist, overemphasizing love handles. Either stop when the trunks are slightly above your hips, or look for boxer-style trunks that button around the waist. Knee-length surfer shorts are another option, but it will cut your height. If you're under six feet, avoid them.
On Thomas: SPEEDO board shorts (P2,500), Glorietta 4; CHARCOAL sandals (P599), Styletto, Glorietta 3. On Nadine: LAE bikini, DOROTHY PERKINS necklace (worn as bracelet)

2 HAVE ONE WITH THE BOYS
The key to standing out when you're enjoying bottles of beer with the guys—looking every bit like TJ Trinidad and Jinno Rufino in San Miguel's famous "Binibini" ad—is to, literally, stand out. Know what they will wear, and make it better. Will the boys show up in cargo shorts? Put on a pair of Bermuda shorts instead—they're more trim and of-the-moment. Are they going for the casual tee? Throw in a long-sleeved casual shirt, and roll up the sleeves to show off the biceps you've been working on.
On Marc: ZARA shirt (P1,950), Power Plant mall; TOPMAN shorts (P1,945), Power Plant mall; CHARCOAL sandals (P599), Styletto, Glorietta 3. On Thomas: DKNY shirt (P5,750) and pants (P7,950), Greenbelt 4; RED ALERT sandals (P1,999), Traffic, Shangri-la mall. On Nadine: ENSEMBLES knit cardigan, TOPSHOP bikini, FREEWAY shorts, VNC bag, SYKAT COUTURE earrings and bangle
Hues Clues
Summer is the best time to throw color into your wardrobe. Polo and button-front shirts with a hint of pink, sky blue, orange or yellow add the element of play and relaxed sensibility to your summer outfit. Squeamish? You can start with a white or gray tee with a red print. "Red is a bright color, but it's still very masculine," says Giselle Go, Marie Claire's junior fashion editor.

3 WOW HER WITH STYLE
Easy on the layering, champ. You might be taking her to an airconditioned restaurant, but the walk from the parking lot won't be cold—even if the temperature drops ever so slightly at night. Stick to breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Even if you sweat—by the humidity or the sight of her—the air that circulates inside your shirt won't allow the stench to set.
Should you still want to layer, adhere to two rules: Go thin and go light. An unlined jacket or a shirt left unbuttoned works when worn with the softest cotton tee you find.
On Marc: RED HERRING shirt (P2,150), Debenhams, Shangri-la mall; JASPER CONRAN jeans (P2,950), Debenhams, Shangri-la mall; TISSOT watch (P48,300), No Curfew, Shangri-la mall. On Nadine: FREEWAY top and earrings, DOROTHY PERKINS jeans, VNC shoes, SYKAT COUTURE bangle
Your Best Goes to the Pits
Antiperspirant conks out? Trim your armpit hair. You don't need to reason that you're doing it for aerodynamic purposes: Bushy hair encourages heavy perspiration, plain and simple. Shorter hair also allows the product to actually touch your skin, which might be the reason why your antiperspirant doesn't work in the first place.
